Requests for Proposals

Tree of Life*Or L’Simcha (TOLOLS) is seeking proposals from fundraising consultants to provide professional services to help plan and conduct a capital campaign.

Tree of Life – Or L'Simcha Congregation (Hebrew: עֵץ חַיִּים – אוֹר לְשִׂמְחָה) is a Conservative Jewish synagogue in the Squirrel Hill neighborhood of PittsburghPennsylvania. Tree of Life Congregation was founded more than 150 years ago in 1864, Or L’Simcha in 2005. In 2010, the two congregations merged to form Tree of Life*Or L’Simcha.

Tree of Life*Or L’Simcha remains true to traditional teachings, yet is also progressive and relevant to the way we live today. The congregation has a warm, inviting, and intellectually stimulating atmosphere; conducts adult, children and family programs; and provides a home for strong faith rooted in tradition. Current membership is approximately 250 families.

As is well known, Tree of Life*Or L’Simcha (TOLOLS), along with two other congregations worshipping in the TOLOLS building, was the target of the worst anti-Semitic attack in US history. On October 27, 2018, a mass shooting killed eleven people and injured six. While the three congregations continue to meet, have services, and conduct business from other locations, the building itself, now both a crime scene and a de facto memorial, has not re-opened since the attack. As a result, the congregation—indeed the entire community—is looking anew at the building site and its potential for the congregations and for Jewish life in Pittsburgh.

The congregation will conduct a capital fundraising campaign to raise the funds necessary for the renovation/rebuilding of its facility, with a new vision, in the aftermath of the attack.

We seek an experienced capital campaign consultant to help plan, implement, and lead the development effort, including hands-on fundraising.

Proposals should be submitted by 12:00 Noon on Friday, February 28, 2020 to:
